Republican sanctuary at the NW foot of the *Velia, (sub Veliis: Asc., Pis. 52.13), built on the site of the second residence of P. Valerius Publicola (Livy 2.7.12: ubi nunc Vicae Potae est); neither the house nor cult site are firmly located. Vica Pota was identified with Victoria (Asc., loc. cit.; Richardson; Coarelli). An ancient etymology preserved in Arnobius (3.25) links the name ‘Vica Pota’ to victus (food) and potus (drink), which suggests an affiliation with the *Macellum (Coarelli). Thus, an approximate site for the cult is marked with an index number at the base of the W flank of the Velia, near the Macellum.
