The well-known tower in the *Horti Maecenatis from which Nero watched the fire of A.D. 64 (Suet., Nero 38.2: e turre Maecenatiana; Oros. 7.7.6). Colini proposes a free-standing rectangular tower, located in the area of Palazzo Brancaccio. On the logical assumption that it stood on the highest point in the horti of Maecenas, Häuber offers a more precise position, the spot known as ‘Casina Gai’ in the Parco Brancaccio, c. 50 m W of the *“Auditorium Maecenatis” (Häuber map 1 point D). There are no archaeological remains; our map shows an index number at the approximate site.
