Tumulus-style tomb built on the *Via Salaria by M. Lucilius Paetus, who held the offices of tribunus militum, praefectus fabrum and praefectus equitum under Augustus, for himself and his sister in c. 20 B.C. (CIL VI 32932; CAR II, C no. 14). A ring of travertine ashlar masonry (diam. 34.9 m) and a burial chamber survive; originally the tomb was crowned by an earthen tumulus akin to the *Mausoleum of Augustus (Nota, Eisner, Pietrangeli). The tomb is the largest and most luxurious monument known in the *“Sepulcra Salaria”.
