This tomb structure lay N of the *”Via Labicana-Praenestina” and W of the Porta Maggiore, between Via Giolitti and Via di Porta Maggiore (shown on Lanciani, FUR pl. 31); it consisted of three rooms in opus reticulatum with a vaulted stuccoed roof (Mancioli). These walls are dated to the Augustan period (Van Deman). Discovered in 1733 and demolished c. 1900, its ground-plan is known from various 18th-c. drawings. An inscription over the entrance drawn by Piranesi records that it was constructed by L. Arruntius (cos. A.D. 6) to house the funerary urns of his dependents and descendants (CIL VI 5931). It is reasonable to assume that this complex was built, or at least begun, before A.D. 14.
