Republican burials found on the S slope of the *Caelius Mons, outside the *Servian Wall (Baille Reynolds, Colini). Three tile graves and a tufa sarcophagus, all dated to the Republic, were discovered in virgin earth below remains of the Imperial castra Peregrina (s.v. *Caelius Mons: Building [4]) during construction of the Convent and Hospital of the Little Company of Mary in 1905-9 (Baille Reynolds 160-61). Also recovered during the work were two sepulchral inscriptions (Baille Reynolds 165, nos. 10-11). These burials offer rare evidence for the course of the Republican defenses across the Caelian.
