Shrine to Pudicitia Plebeia, founded in 296 B.C. by the patrician matron Verginia (RE VIIIA Verginius 25) in part of her residence on the *Vicus Longus along the SE slope of the *Quirinal (Livy 10.23.5-10: in vico Longo ... ex parte aedium ... modico sacello exclusit; Festus 270: Plebeiae Pudicitiae sacellum in vico Longo est); here, Coarelli's location near the Palazzo della Esposizione is followed. While Livy records that the cult fell into oblivion after worship was taken up by women of questionable character, Festus writes as though the cult were still active in his day (Richardson); thus it may well have had a presence in Augustan Rome, and it is represented by an index number on our map.
