A famous portico built by Agrippa’s sister Vipsania Polla in the *Campus Agrippae. It contained Agrippa’s annotated map of the world, which was erected there after his death by Augustus (Pliny, NH 3.17). The fact that an Illyrian army was stationed Vipsania in porticu in A.D. 69 (Tac., Hist. 1.31.2) is evocative of the portico’s great size but tells us little about its architectural form.

Many sets of remains have been identified with Polla’s portico, but none has gained universal acceptance. We know only that Martial (4.18.1-2) seems to associate it with the archways of the *Aqua Virgo. The strongest candidate that meets this criteria lies just S of the aqueduct, beneath Galleria Sciarra (Coarelli, LTUR; id. 1995; but cf. De Caprariis). The remains at this site, discovered in 1885, do not permit a reconstruction of the portico’s total dimensions.
