Sanctuary of Hercules Primigenius, located outside the *Servian Wall, along the *Via Salaria (contra, Carafa 135 n.80). Hannibal camped here in 211 B.C. (ad Herculis templum: Livy 26.10.3). Though no archaeological evidence survives, the location of this cult site can safely be inferred from the shrine of Hercules Primigenius (Palmer 1095), known from Augustan and Julio-Claudian funerary inscriptions (CIL VI 7655: AB HERCVLE PRIMIGENIO, 9645; cf. Chioffi) and a marble cippus inscribed to Hercules Primigenius, found in the area of Piazza Fiume (CIL VI 30907: HERCVLI PRIMIGENIO SACRVM). Two additional inscriptions (CIL VI 284, 30899) have been associated with the monument for no good reason (Richardson, Chioffi).
