Shrine or sanctuary of Fortuna Primigenia on the *Capitol, attributed to Servius Tullius (Plut., De fort. Rom. 10: Τύχης ἱερὸν ἐν μὲν Καπετωλίῳ τὸ τῆς Πριμιγενείας λεγομένης), and located close to the Temple of *Iuppiter Tonans (CIL XIV 2852 l.1 = ILS 3696; perhaps that of the Fast. Arv.: FORTVN(AE) PRIM(IGENIAE) IN C(APITOLIO?), in Degrassi, Inscr. Ital. 13.2, 530). Aronen has convincingly established its position using the following testimony: φέροντες εἰς τὸν κοπρῶνα ἀνέθηκαν αὐτήν, ἄξιον νεὼν τὸν ἀφεδρῶνα νείμαντες τῇ θεῷ, ‘carrying her statue to the latrine, thus establishing the latrine as a worthy temple for the goddess’: Clem. Al., Protr. 4.51). Aronen identifies this Fortuna with the Capitoline Fortuna Primigenia, and the latrine with the porta Stercoraria, an alley used to collect refuse from the Vestals, located half-way up the *Clivus Capitolinus. The shrine of Fortuna Primigenia may thus be placed on the E edge of the *Area Capitolina overlooking this road.
