<p>Several partial <i>opus reticulatum</i> walls of late-Republican or Augustan date abut the *Agger near the *Porta Viminalis and have been identified as a residence (Blake; Oliver 164-67 and fig. 2). This identification seems based upon the preconception of the *Viminalis as a “residential quarter” (Blake 250; cf. Oliver 168) rather than on the extant physical evidence, which is quite fragmented. Even if one elects not to accept this as a residence, the walls offer valuable testimony for the intrusion of buildings into the Agger by the Augustan era.</p>
