A well-appointed residence located beneath the NW corner of the platform of the Temple of Venus and Roma (Schingo, Papi). Extant remains include a circular hall flanked by four rectangular galleries, each preserving rich marble and mosaic pavements; their design and workmanship suggest a late-Republican or Augustan date (Morricone). Recently Cn. Domitius Ahenobarbus (cos. A.D. 32) has been proposed as one proprietor of this elegant and prominent residence (Carandini 370-71). Previously, these remains were identified with Nero’s domus Transitoria (Richardson), but this association has been conclusively rejected (Morricone 71, 82; de Vos 202).
