Remains of a Republican residence were unearthed at the E foot of the *Velia during the construction of the modern subway system. Though destroyed soon after their discovery, archival documents attest to walls of opus quadratum in tufa and a fine mosaic pavement, which probably belonged to a residence (Schingo 154, fig. 147 M). The location of the remains suggests the domus may have fronted onto the eponymous street of the *Vicus Compiti Acili (cf. *Carinae: Streets).
