This late-Republican house on the *Cispian was discovered in 1847 at the corner of Via Sforza and Via dei Quattro Cantoni. Its modern name ‘Casa dei Paesaggi dell’Odissea’ is derived from a fresco featuring the adventures of Odysseus. This house is only partially known, but excavations suggest that the Odyssey frieze was part of a portico or cryptoportico, and that the house was developed in terraces on the crest of the hill (von Blanckenhagen, Gallina 15-16). The house is dated to the late Republic on the basis of opus reticulatum walls of the same type as the *Theatrum Pompeium (Gallina 11, 13-14), and on the basis of a stylistic analysis of the frieze itself (Gallina 42-45). Our map marks the position of the small portion of the house which has been excavated.
