Recent excavations on the S slope of the *Caelian, outside the *Servian Wall, have revealed walls in opus reticulatum and a mosaic pavement (Pavolini 84-86, fig. 11 nos. 21, 23). The mosaic is dated to the Augustan era through a stylistic comparison to one recovered from the *Domus of Augustus on the *Palatine. While the remains are too scant to determine reliably the building’s original form, this structure, along with the *Domus: Caelius Mons (2), offers valuable testimony of the presence of luxury architecture on the hill during the Augustan era.
