Site for augurs’ observations on the *Quirinal mentioned by Varro (Ling. 5.52) when giving the location of the sixth sacrarium of the Argei (Richardson; Coarelli, LTUR). It stood on the collis Latiaris, the lowest and most southerly lobe of the Quirinal (near SS. Domenico e Sisto), but its exact location within this region is unknown and thus its placement on the map hypothetical. On analogy to the auguraculum in Cosa, it was probably a relatively small (5 x 5 m) open space demarcated with cippi (Castagnoli 13). While there may have been a thatched hut at the *Auguraculum on the *Arx, there was no building at this site (Varro, loc cit.). Coarelli (1981) locates the Auguraculum on the W edge of the Quirinal just outside the *Servian Wall, but this places it on the collis Salutaris and thus directly contradicts the testimony of Varro (for a detailed rebuttal of Coarelli, see Castagnoli 16 n.73).
